Public Works Part-time Maintenance Worker


  • Trash and debris pickup to assure that all sidewalks and streets are maintained to be trash-free and have a presentable appearance.
  • Will perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled light and heavy manual tasks related to equipment maintenance, and related duties as required.
  • Experienced in using light mechanical machines, hand tools, and landscape equipment.
  • Paint curbs
  • Painting, moving, sign replacements
  • Remove signs and posters from public structure
  • Pick up litter and transport trash to dumps
  • Inspects Town facilities to determine maintenance levels
  • Provides support for special Town events
  • Maintains all tools and equipment, trucks and other heavy equipment in proper working order
  • Assists with snow and ice removal;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
    • Knowledge of basic construction materials and practices and safety procedures
    • Safety practices and tools commonly used in construction and maintenance; and preventive maintenance and safe operations of trucks, machines and power tools
    • Ability to perform heavy manual labor
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in landscaping, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and equipment maintenance and repair
    • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety requirements involved in construction work; ability to plan and carry out construction and maintenance projects
    • Ability to perform all of the work required of the maintenance crew members
    • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

        • This is heavy work requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pound of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
        • Work requires climbing, balancing, stopping, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions
        • The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions
          • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland
          • Must be 18 years of age or older
          • High school diploma or equivalent
          • This is a part-time position. Employees will work a maximum of 20 hours per week. The employee may be assigned to work weekends and evenings.
